Stabilo All Aquarellable Blue Pencil

Quick sketches with a blue Stabilo All 8041 Pencil

Taking inventory of my art stash, I came across this lovely Stabilo All pencil I completely forgot about. I think I bought it back at the time when I was experimenting with mixed media, and it was able to write on virtually anything. While dusting off this small but powerful tool, I’ve also realised how brilliant it is for traveling and minimalist sketching.

The pencil is water-soluble and once the pigment is activated it becomes almost like ink in regard to consistency. I like how much control where to put pigment pencil gives. I was also very surprised how little it is needed to get high contrast sketches.

You can use pencil in multiple ways; you can lay the pigment on paper and activate it with water, you can pick up the pigment with a dump brush, or you can put some wiggle mark on your pallet mix it with water, and you have a wash you can then apply to your sketch.

The blue color has that lovely “old school” feel which I really like a lot. It is also great for beginners or anyone on a budget. I am not sure whether it is lightfast or not yet.
