Project 14 – Continuous Line
Before we’ve jumped to Project 14, we had a whole week of rest the previous week. During the rest week there was no video released nor any instructions about what to do. Like many of my “classmates”, I dedicated this week to catching up.
The continuous line project was fun and very very loose. The whole point was not to lift the pen from the paper or at least limit it to a minimum. Later, when all was done, we went back to add some details here and there.
This week project was split into two different parts:
Part 1 – Achromatic House
I like anything monochromatic and achromatic painting as I am not best at using and choosing appropriate colours, so I enjoyed this page very much. I used my trusted Stabilo Aquarellable black pencil instead of a water-soluble graphite one. Not lifting a hand was actually harder than I thought, but it made a lovely wonky house full of character.
Part 2 – Coloured Houses
This page was fun to do. When trying not to lift my hand, I was slowly getting lost in all the lines and took great concentration and observation of the original photo to finish it. I would’ve assumed that sketching loosely is easier than precisely, but from this experience it is the other way around. I used Uniball micro pen and Rembrandt watercolours.
This week summary
- continuous line was fun as a one-off exercise, but I’m not sure if I will do it any time soon
- I prefer monochromatic to coloured sketches
- still don’t like paper in the Sketch Awesome sketchbook for watercolours
