The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy
The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy is a fictional book with lots of loose Pen and Ink drawings.
The book describes a journey of a Boy who meets his new friends along the way and let you read their very deep intellectual conversations. It is not very heavy on text making it time friendly for busy people.
The book is beautifully illustrated. Most of the drawings are done with ink and nib pen but some illustrations do have colours as well. Handwritten text compliments the style and overall feel of the book. I personally finished the reading within 15 minutes and then I was indulging myself in studying his drawings.
For artist readers, it provides a great resource for “a master study”. It is like having a sneak peek into someone else’s private journal. Trying to deconstruct and analyse Charlie’s drawing helps to enhance your own drawing techniques as well.
I particularly like that his characters don’t have any facial features but still have strong expressions conveying emotions. He mastered the loose sketch style with such elegance.
I would not hesitate to recommend this book to anyone interested in pen and ink drawing technique or anyone looking for inspiration to widen own horizons.
