Project 9 – Old Boots sketching
I truly love pen and ink and adding watercolours to my sketches in Project 9 was a great addition.
I used Dr Ph Martin bleed proof white for highlights instead of a white pen or acrylic white marker. In my experience, white pens have the tendency to re-activate the paint below and marks get tinted with colour below. Also, bleed proof white was actually much better than a white gouache.
This week project was split into three videos:
Main Project – Old Boots
This was spread over two video tutorials. In the first video we sketched the boots and the second was dedicated to painting and putting more details in ink. I’ve not added any white highlights as I like my boots as they were. As a matter of fact, I like the colour combination so much, that I will definitely use it again.
Bonus – Kerosene Lamp
A more sped-up video tutorial for this one which forced people to be more independent. Fiddling with details is something I enjoy a lot and I spent quite a lot of time on a sketch adding details and playing with background. I used white to add highlights back at the end as I managed to destroy all of them during the process.
This week summary
- doing a sketch for the whole page was a great change as we usually do multiple small ones
- love monochromatic sketches
- really like the colour choices
